Description
Northeastern University, founded in 1898 and located in Boston, is a private research university that is a leader in experiential learning, interdisciplinary scholarship, urban engagement, and research that meets global and societal needs.
Responsibilities:
Working in collaboration with colleagues in both the office of corporations and foundations and the office of development research and management, the research analyst identifies and conducts in-depth research on potential corporation and foundation prospects. Works with confidential as well as publicly accessible information to assess prospective donor interest and viability. Compiles background reports on corporations, foundations, trade organizations, and international governing bodies and their involvement at Northeastern University, obtaining information from personal interviews, university archives, hardcopy and Internet sources and a variety of proprietary and third-party databases to determine such information as affiliations, financial resources and previous interaction with and support to the university. Writes and edits narrative and standardized reports, corporate and foundation profiles, and summaries of organizations’ relationships with the university for senior administration and in support of corporate and foundation development efforts.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree required, up to two years research experience or substantive experience. Prospect research and analytical skills. Background in academic or research environment a plus. Experience using complex relational databases for storage and retrieval of prospect data. Ability to interact effectively with a variety of professionals. Ability to work successfully in teams and under own initiative.
Excellent communication, organizational and writing skills. Accountable for quantity and quality of research conducted. Solid understanding of database function, experience in database report writing. Must be motivated self-starter and have demonstrated knowledge of research techniques and tools. Strong customer service orientation and follow-through.
Technical Skills:
Microsoft Office and Foundation Center products, on-line vendor services such as Factiva, Lexis-Nexis, Wall Street Journal Online, etc.
